Benefits of a Rough Cut Mower

Acreage™ Tow-Behind Rough Cut Mower

A rough cut mower, also known as a brush cutter or trail mower, is an essential tool for anyone managing overgrown areas, thick vegetation, or rugged terrain. Unlike traditional mowers, rough cut mowers are designed to handle tall grass, dense brush, and small saplings with ease, making them invaluable for farms, large properties, and commercial landscaping projects.

Benefits of a Rough Cut Mower

  1. Efficiency: These mowers can cover large areas quickly, reducing the time and effort needed to clear overgrown spaces. The ability to offset the mower to the side of the towing vehicle allows for precision cutting without having to first run over the material with your tow vehicle.
  2. Durability: Built with heavy-duty materials and strong  pivoting blades, rough cut mowers can withstand tough jobs and handle debris that would damage standard mowers. The Earthquake Rough Cut Mower features a heavy duty steel deck and angled wheel guards built to bounce off trees and other obstacles without causing damage.
  3. Versatility: Rough cut mowers can tackle uneven terrain, including slopes, ditches and tight trails, making them suitable for nearly any cutting condition. 2-wheeled rough cut mowers tend to handle uneven terrain better than 4-wheeled options by adjusting to slopes and bumps without the blades contacting the ground. The adjustable cutting height allows the user to accommodate a wide variety of conditions
  4. Cost-Effective Maintenance: By keeping vegetation under control, rough cut mowers can prevent invasive or unwanted plants from taking over trails, fields and other controlled environments.

How does it work?

Rough Cut Mowers are powered by high displacement engines generally over 10 HP. The powerful engine spins pivoting blades at a high rate of speed. These blades are not nearly as sharp as a standard lawn mower because they are designed to overpower the cutting material rather than slice through it. This allows these mowers to clear saplings up to 3" in diameter without requiring sharpening after each use.
